Testing with the Tri-State VE Team in conjunction with the W4VEC will be resuming testing schedules effective March 9th at 10 AM. These sessions are coordinated and administered using verified and accepted licensing practices in accordance with FCC Regulations.
LOCATION/DATES
Testing takes place at 10:00 AM at the Murphy First Baptist Church, located at 517 Hiwassee Street, Murphy, NC 28906 and will be offered every 2nd Saturday of the month (exceptions may be made for additional testing locations/times if warranted). A schedule will be posted on social media accounts and for current club members with Appalachia Amateur Radio Club through the club website: https://www.hamclubonline.com/
Testing is for new applicants looking to obtain a Technician, General and Amateur Extra class license. It is also available to those who are currently licensed and wishing to upgrade to the next license level.
FEES
Test fees for calendar year 2024 are as follows: $12.00 for the element exam you pass. You will be given the opportunity to take the next element exam at no charge. If you pass you will only be charged the $12 fee, if you do not pass that exam, you will be given one more opportunity to take that element exam again, however if you fail that second attempt you will be responsible for an additional $12.00 testing fee.
To obtain your callsign once you have passed you will need to login to your FCC Cores website registration account and pay the $35.00 fee required. After it is processed through the system, they will initiate and email to you advising that your application has been processed and provide you with an active link for 30 days to access directly to your newly issued license. https://www.fcc.gov/licensing-databases/commission-registration-system-fcc
Items Needed to take exam
1. FCC FRN registration number is required to take a license examination and can be obtained here:
2. A copy of your valid driver’s license or photo ID must be presented on the day of the exam and a copy of the license number must be part of your registration information.
3. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED 30 DAYS IN ADVANCE OF TESTING SESSION! To register please contact the session manager via the information below.
4. Your email address (one used with FCC for FRN #), mailing address, phone number, full name used on registration with the FCC must also be included.
